Be rounder than another chicken?  \nIf you’ve ever laid awake at night wondering these things\, then you’re in for a treat\, because this year\, on May 23rd\, we’re going to put ALL that to the test. \nYes\, chicken athleticism is real\, and you can witness it yourself at Christchurch’s premier poultry athletics event\, Chickenstock. \nChickenstock is a family-friendly daytime event for the WHOLE family. Yes\, all of the family. Even Graham. So bring him along\, and come watch real chickens compete to navigate mazes\, pull objects\, and attempt to perform dressage\, all in a wholesome\, alcohol-free environment - unlike these rowdy\, boozy chicken athletic events you’re always hearing about. \nWhat’s more\, we’re encouraging you to enter your OWN chicken\, and join in the fun. Whether you happen to own one\, or bought one specifically for this purpose and have been waiting for this moment your whole life\, this could be your time. \nThe only requirements for entry are that your chicken be: \n\nA chicken (no geese)\nAlive\nAt least somewhat cooperative\n\nIt is also highly preferable that your chicken have legs. \nSo if you think you have a chicken that could jump over stuff\, walk in a straight line\, or maybe even climb stairs\, then you have until 1 May to register HERE.  \nThe entry fee is $10 per chicken\, but will only be charged after your chicken is deemed fit to compete at the official weigh-in on 9 May. \n*Living chicken rule will be strictly enforced \n\nOfficial Weigh-In - Saturday 9 May\nThere will be a promotional event the May 9th weigh-in\, where some of the competing chickens will be publicly assessed in an exhibition by a team of armchair experts to ensure that it is living\, breathing\, and ready for competition. \nThe weigh-in is also a showcase\, where the full lineup of chicken competitors will be revealed and the public will get their first glance at your chicken and its adversaries. \nThe weigh-in will take place at 5pm\, Venue TBC \n\nSponsor a Chicken\nWhether you’re a spectator or participant yourself\, we welcome you to choose your loyalty\, and sponsor a specific chicken for an amount of up to $5. \nThis event will not be available on the TAB\, so really this is your only way to gamble on it. \nIf you sponsor a chicken\, you’ll go in the draw to win a Chickenstock Prize Pack that could include board games\, food\, drink\, or other surprises. \nThe full line-up of chickens will be available to sponsor following the May 9th weigh-in. \n\nThe Main Event Card\nSo what exactly will these chickens be doing? Will they know what they’re doing? Will we know what they’re doing? \nThe seven main events are as follows: \n\nThe Egg Pull: A test of physical strength where chickens will attempt to pull a tray of 12 eggs from one end of the arena to the other.\nThe High Jump: Chickens will attempt to clear incrementally more difficult obstacles until only one chicken remains\nThe Maze: Can chickens navigate a maze so simple your newborn could do it? It’s doubtful\nChicken Dressage: If horses can do it\, why can’t chickens? Chickens will compete to perform simple routines with precision.\nRoundest Chicken: Which chicken is the roundest? Chicken closest to achieving a perfect sphere wins! Only healthy chickens will be considered for this event.\nThe Legendary Stair Climb: The most coveted of the competitions\, the stair climb is the marquee event of Chickenstock. Before and after performing a 10-metre dash\, chickens will attempt to climb a small flight of stairs. This is the ultimate in poultry athleticism.\nBest in Show: Finally\, the show will be capped off with some audience participation\, where you will be able to vote for maybe not the most skilled chicken\, but your favourite chicken.\n\n*disclaimer: there is a non-zero chance that there will be no successful chicken feats performed due to reasonable chicken performance anxiety and / or lack of co-operation. Chickens are famously uncooperative\, hence the fundamental tension present in this event. \n\nTickets\nSpectators are warmly invited to attend and cheer on the competitors. Bring your family.
